Across the nation, adults and kids a like have been swept up by the rock painting craze. Unlike other trends, Kindness Rocks has inspired acts of kindness and has gotten families out doing things together. Buford is no exception. “Buford Rocks!” was created in July to help promote kindness and a certain pride within our community.
Buford Rocks wanted an outlet to get the word out about the great cause that is the Kindness Rocks project. Knowing that the homecoming parade on Friday, October 13, 2017 draws the largest crowd of the year, it was decided to somehow join the two — Buford Rocks and the annual parade. Buford Rocks decided to publicize the parade in conjunction with rock hiding.
An event was created to promote painting Buford-themed rocks to hide along the parade route before the parade begins. Several posts were put up on the Buford Rocks group page calling all “rockers” to begin preparing for this huge event. The parade route starts at Tannery Row, runs down Main Street, and onto Sawnee Avenue where it ends at the high school. Spectators line the streets the entire length of the route providing Buford Rocks with ample opportunity to spread Buford spirit and get out the word about sharing kindness through rocks.
Each rock will be hidden before the start of the parade. Rockers have been asked to write the instructions on the back: “Buford Rocks! on Facebook. Please post a pic of me. [Painter’s Initials.]” The rock finders will upload photos of their finds and get a chance to see what Kindness Rocks is all about in our community. Painters love to see their works of art posted so they can see the joy it brought to another.
Due to the high expected parade attendance numbers, painters are still needed to create their works of Buford art! Painters do not have to be attending the parade in order to have their rocks hidden. Buford Rocks is willing to pick up the rocks from you and hide them along the route. Painters of all skill levels are needed. Not a Picasso? No problem! Every rock is a work of art and valued.
Buford parade-goers, be on the lookout for these miniature creations! They could be hidden anywhere! When found, please post a picture of the rock and yourself in the location it was found. You can either re hide the rock for another person to find and spread joy to or if you absolutely love it, you may keep it and let it bring you countless more smiles. The choice is completely up to you.
If you have any questions about rock painting, need assistance with painting supplies, or would like to arrange to have your rocks picked up and hidden for you, please email alicia@northgwinnettvoice.com.
We look forward to seeing you at the parade and your finds on Facebook.
