The sixth annual 5k memorial run for the Ryan Daniel Scholarship Fund was held Saturday, November 17 along Historic Main Street in Buford.
The Ryan Daniel Scholarship Fund was created to remember a well loved special education teacher and coach at Buford High School. Ryan Daniel passed away in 2012 from a heart attack. His legacy means that two Buford High School students will receive scholarships to help fund their post high school educational expenses.
This year’s 5k brought in over 50 race participants including BHS Athletic Director, Dexter Wood, the new BHS Head Football Coach, John Ford and the BHS Lacrosse Team.
Coach David Snell opened this year’s race by remembering the man that Ryan Daniel was and what he meant to our Community. Wayne Johnson, pastor from Buford First Baptist followed Coach Snell with a short prayer.
With the help of local sponsors, a total of $7,500 was raised to be awarded to this year’s senior class recipients. Over the last six years a total of over $65,000 has been awarded as scholarships to students in Ryan’s memory.
This year’s race was organized and maintained by Sandra Daniel, Brad Weeks, Adam Gower, and Derrick Kilgore.
