Buford Athletics is well known for having winning teams and they have proven once again that is true. First to start off the winning ways on Thursday was Buford Wrestling who had nine wrestlers advance to the state semifinals the following day. Buford had the most pins on Thursday as well with 14. Friday’s action saw eight Wolves win their matches and advance to the State Traditional Championship Finals on Saturday. Buford managed to clinch the State Traditional Championship title with three Wolves winning their matches. The wrestlers winning their matches in the finals were Charlie Darracott, Nicky Stonecheck, and Tristan Bozoian. This win gives the Wolves and Coach Tom Beuglas back to back titles.
Both Buford Boys and Girls Basketball teams played for the Region 8-AAAAA titles at Johnson High School this weekend. The boys kicked off their region run against Flowery Branch and it was looking like an upset with Flowery Branch rallying back but Alex Jones saved Buford with 1.7 seconds left on the clock to give the Wolves the win with a final score of 49 – 47. Their win matched them against Clarke Central on Saturday night. Watson led the Wolves in their close win over Clarke Central scoring 23. Rounding out the top scoring players were Jones with 15, Nixon scoring 14, and Viti contributing 11 points. The boys final was 79 – 75 over their Clarke Central opponents. The Buford Boys Basketball team is the 2018 Region 8-AAAAA Champs with Alex Jones being named the Region Player of the Year.
The Lady Wolves played Clarke Central in their semi final game for the Region 8-AAAAA Championship run. The girls beat Clarke Central by a sizable margin with a final score of 69 – 24. Audrey Weiner led the Lady Wolves scoring with 15 points. In the Region finals, Buford went up against Flowery Branch. The Lady Falcons gave Buford a challenge but the Lady Wolves were up for the challenge. They managed to pull off the win with a final score of 49 – 41 to claim the Region 8-AAAAA Crown. Tory Ozment led the Lady Wolves in scoring with 21 points and was named the Region Player of the Year.
It’s that time of year where Winter sports are wrapping up and Spring sports are getting started. Buford Boys Lacrosse had a scrimmage match on Friday night against North Forsyth. Boys LAX won over N Forsyth with a final score of 12 – 2.
Buford Varsity Soccer played North Hall at home on Friday night. The Wolves beat N Hall with a final score of 4 – 2. The Lady Wolves beat North Hall 4 – 1. Next up for them will be the Lanier Longhorns at home on Tuesday night.
