On March 28th, the Buford High School baseball team hosted its annual Youth Night at Gerald McQuaig field. Kids who play baseball and softball were asked to wear their jerseys. Coaches and their young players were brought onto the field for the National Anthem. The kids were the highlight of this night as their play off the field was more exciting than the action on the field.
On Youth night, the Wolves played region opponent, Cedar Shoals. Griffin Bonner and Grant Thomoff combined their efforts where they had to face the minimum number of 9 Cedar Shoals batters before the game was called in the third inning. Cedar Shoals pitching was seriously lacking where they walked over 20 of Buford’s batters in the first inning alone. Noah Ledford had 3 RBIs and a homerun and Patrick Walker had 4 RBIs and 2 hits. The game was called on the mercy rule in the 3rd inning with a final score of 21 – 0.
Buford traveled to Cedar Shoals on Friday night where they beat them again. This time in 4 innings with a score of 16 – 0. Ramsey David was on the mound where he struck out 7 Cedar Shoals players. Reece McIntyre had a great night going 2 – 3 with 5 RBIs. Garrison Price also had a great game hitting a 3 run homer for the Wolves.
While most get to rest over Spring Break, not Buford’s baseball team. They took on Lambert, a non region game on Monday at noon at BHS. Sean Adams, Griffin Bonner, and CJ Couch combined for the win over Lambert allowing only 3 hits while striking out 8. Evan Place and Noah Ledford led the scoring for the Wolves. The Wolves win over Lambert 4 – 3.
The Wolves overall record so far this year is 13 – 8 and are undefeated in region 8-AAAAA play (6 – 0).
