June’s City of Buford Commission Meeting was held on June 4th at Buford City Hall. The meeting was called to order and two Boy Scouts from Troop 576 from Lawrenceville led the attendees in The Pledge of Allegiance. The Commission voted to change July’s meeting to July 16, 2018 at 7 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall.
The first piece of business was a rezoning request by Vertical Element, LLC for 359 South Hill Street from C-2 to R-100. Garen McDonnell stated he was building a home for his Mother to live in. The request was approved. Blue Ridge Distribution Center, LLC asked to be allowed to operate an auto body repair shop at 3750 Blue Ridge Drive, Suite 300. Request approved. A request to allow boat storage for sales inventory by Performance Builders, Inc. for 5815 Lanier Islands Parkway was also approved. An annexation request was approved for 2214 Shoal Creek Road with the condition that the homeowner continues the sidewalk from a neighboring subdivision already in the city across the front of his property.
A request was approved to rezone land off of Buford Hwy behind Ewing Motor Company from C-2 to R-100. The request was made by Ga Mall Consortium, LLC for a subdivision on 21.60 acres that will contain single family dwellings.
Various other matters came before the Commission and were approved, as well as, various payment requests.
Todd Cleveland from the Buford Community Center reported that the Drivin n Cryin concert attracted some 2,500 attendees outside while 300 guests were in the theatre. On June 15th, Beauty and the Beast was the first free movie of the 2018 season. The full schedule for the BCC is now available on their website.
City Manager Bryan Kerlin reported that the Downtown Parking Deck would begin construction around June 21st. The recent frequent rainfall has delayed the completion of South Lee Street which was due to be completed at the end of May. Before sidewalks and improvements down the Moreno Street corridor can begin, historical preservation considerations must be made. The signal set to go in at Heraeus Boulevard and Buford Highway should be completed before the end of summer. Various electrical and gas department projects are going smoothly. The recreation department reports the softball and baseball All-Stars are under way and that tennis is very busy as well.
Chairman Beard went around the room to see if anyone had matters they would like to present to the Commission. No one came forward. Meeting was adjourned.
