Sunday afternoon, The North Gwinnett Voice was tipped off about a large police presence on Railroad Avenue in Sugar Hill. A wild and at times, high speed chase that spanned several counties came to an end off of Railroad Avenue near Frontier Forest. The chase started in Jackson County and involved law enforcement from Jackson County, Georgia State Patrol, and Gwinnett County.
Jackson County Sheriff Deputies were performing a routine traffic stop on another vehicle when a car driven by Joshua Martin tried going around the cars and rammed into a patrol car. Jackson County pursued Martin and his passenger, Shannon Michael Carter. Martin was driving a Jeep that was towing a trailer. Readers told the Voice that as the chase went past, they were forced into the ditch and felt that they were lucky to escape unharmed.
Martin was apprehended when the chase came to an end on Railroad Avenue. His passenger, Shannon Michael Carter fled into the woods in between Railroad Avenue and the Frontier Forest neighborhood. Police and a K9 unit searched for Carter without success. The search was called off leaving Carter at large.
Carter has multiple felony warrants in Jackson and Gwinnett. Police consider him armed and dangerous. Carter is a white male described as having brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5’ 10” and weighs approximately 150 lbs.
Anyone with information on Carter is asked to contact Capt. Dale A. Dillow at 706-387-6043 or ddillow@jacksoncountysheriff.us.
