The Collins Hill Lady Eagles softball team traveled to play Buford at home Wednesday evening. The Lady Wolves were able to pull out the win with a score of 8-6.
The Lady Wolves were outhit by Collins Hill who went 11-9 and Buford committed three errors. Buford junior Anabel Adams leads off the 5th for Buford hitting a solo home-run. This turned out to be the game-winning run.
Both sides remained scoreless in the first. Collins Hill scores two runs on fielding errors by Buford. Buford answered back when two singles by Katie Perkins and Shea Bayreuther sends Abbi Perkins across home plate. Hannah Morgan tripled but had Tori Rotundo in as a courtesy runner for her. Katie Perkins and Bayreuther score off of Morgan’s triple. Rotundo then scores when Meredith Massey singled. Massey stole second and later scored off a single by Mariah Wicker. Wicker made it to third on errors by Collins Hill and scored after Anabel Adams singled.
Buford was up 6-3 until the 5th inning. Collins Hill scores three runs in the top of the 5th inning to tie the score at 6-6. Leading off the bottom of the 5th, Anabel Adams has a solo home-run to break the tie. The only other run of the game was scored by Buford when Meredith Massey scored off a single by Kelly Paulson.
Junior Amelia Veal records the win going 3-0 on the season. She went for 5 innings striking out 4 allowing 6 hits and 6 runs of which 3 were earned. She had only one walk. Junior Kaitlyn Pickens relieved Veal in the top of the 6th where she allowed 5 hits but no runs scored.
Anabel Adams (Junior) led the Wolves offensively going 2 for 3 with a solo HR, 2 RBI’s, and one run scored. Senior Hannah Morgan went 1 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI’s. Senior Meredith Massey went 1 for 2 and had 1 RBI, 1 stolen base and scored a run. Rounding out the offense for Buford was senior Shea Bayreuther who went 1 for 3, had 1 RBI and one run scored.
Buford improves to a season record of 6-4. They travel to Wesleyan on September 5th for their next game.
