On Thursday, August 30, 2018 the 9th grade football team opened their regular season at home against Dacula. Coach Sean Gilbert felt good about the team’s chances after having had a great summer working hard in preparation for the season. The team has several players from last year’s Gwinnett Football League team that won the FBU National Championship in Florida.
The freshmen shut out Dacula 46-0. The offensive line consisting of Jackson Favors, River Wilson, Sho Mitchell, Andrew Nixon, and Carson Perry were key in opening up holes and protecting Buford quarterbacks. Jackson Favors, CJ Clinkscales, Eli Parks, and Victor Venn all had rushing touchdowns against Dacula. Quarterbacks Ashton Daniels and Will Harkness had passing touchdowns to Tobi Olawale and Ryland Gandy. Instrumental at shutting out Dacula were the defensive line of Jake Pope, Malik Spencer, Stan Zagrodnik, Ben Martin, Joseph Hunt, and Sho Mitchell.
Buford traveled to Archer this past Thursday, September 6th. The freshmen Wolves soundly beat their opponent 40-14. Stand outs for Buford during this game were CJ Clinkscales, Victor Venn, Ashton Daniels, Sho Mitchell, and Nathan Norys
The JV Wolves have also started out their season strong with wins against Dacula and Archer. The future of Buford football looks to be promising. There’s a depth of talent coming up through the ranks.
Up next for the Freshmen and JV teams is Brookwood on Thursday, September 9th.
