Every year Buford Middle School’s PTO has their largest fundraiser of the year at the end of August.  This year’s Color Run was held on Friday, August 31st. The students run a course around the middle school grounds while volunteers mist them with water and toss colored chalk their way.  Students wear glasses and masks during the run. Students look forward to the Color Run every year. It’s a welcome treat as it gives the students a chance to get away from the books to run around, spend time with their friends, and get coated in a rainbow of colors.  Especially since middle school students do not get any recess time like at the Academy and Elementary School.

Buford City Schools is blessed with a large network of parent volunteers.  This event needs quite a few volunteers every year to step up to make it happen.  Volunteers mist the students with water, toss the color at them, pass out water and popsicles to the students at the finish line as well as assist in the cleanup. The PTO had seventy-five parent volunteers per grade level during this year’s Color Run.

Before the event took place the PTO advertised throughout the community for corporate sponsors to help them meet their $50,000 goal.  Twenty-six corporate sponsors (the most in the event history) stepped up to help the PTO and students raise the funds which go towards technology purchases at the middle school.   The PTO will be able to purchase new software as well as update licensing to existing software with this money.

To date, $25,000 of the $50,000 goal has been raised.  One week is left in which to raise the additional funds for the technology the PTO hopes to be able to buy for the students.  BMS parents and students, you are encouraged to continue to raise funds. If you are interested in donating money to the Color Run fundraiser, please email bmspto@bufordcityschools.org or contact Kristin Rodriguez at kdr3557@gmail.com or call her at (678) 458-0622.  Cash, check, or credit cards are accepted.  All money must be turned in the morning of September 13th.

BMS would like to thank the Color Run corporate sponsors, students, parents, staff, and all the volunteers for making this year’s Color Run a successful and memorable event.
