The seventh annual 5k memorial run for the Ryan Daniel Scholarship Fund was held Saturday, November 17, 2018 along Historic Main Street in Buford.
The Ryan Daniel Scholarship Fund was created to remember a well loved special education teacher and coach at Buford High School. Ryan Daniel passed away in 2012 from a heart attack. His legacy means that two Buford High School students will receive scholarships to help fund their post high school educational expenses.
Buford High School Assistant Athletic Director, Dexter Wood gave opening remarks about Ryan Daniel and his legacy. Wayne Johnson led the runners in prayer before the race.
This year’s Ryan Daniel Scholarship Fund benefit 5k run raised just over $8,000 dollars for this year’s scholarship recipients. These lucky recipients will be announced at graduation. Over the last seven years, a total of well over $70k has been awarded as scholarships to students in Ryan’s memory.
This year’s race was organized and maintained by Sandra Daniel, Brad Weeks, Adam Gower, and Derrick Kilgore.
