A number of local high school football players have signed to play for prestigious colleges and universities across the nation. These young athletes have chosen to channel their hard work and sporting prowess into opportunities to further their education while still playing the sports they love.
Buford High School in particular attracted impressive attention to its lineup of players by winning the GHSA AAAAAA state football championship for the third consecutive season.
The Wolves’ starting wingback and cornerback Isaiah Bond has committed to the University of Alabama, where he will surely hope to continue his run of success with the reigning SEC champions. Joining him in a Crimson Tide uniform will be wide receiver and strong safety Jake Pope.
Malik Spencer also hopes for a bright future in college football, signing with Peach Bowl champions Michigan State University, which finished the season ranked No. 10 in the country.
Some Wolves players also showcased their discipline by committing to military colleges. Tobi Olawole signed to play for the Army, where he’ll likely face off against his current teammate River Wilson, who will don the navy blue and gold to play for the Navy.
Quarterback Ashton Daniels has also committed to the prestigious Stanford University. Daniels was instrumental in the Wolves’ championship run, earning his place as the No. 4 ranked player in the state of Georgia.
Buford’s kicker, Alejandro Mata, has committed to join the Jackson State Tigers. Mata’s consistent kicking was instrumental in the Wolves’ 21-20 victory in the state championship.
Both Victor Venn and Aubrey Smith will be joining the Buffs at the University of Colorado in the Pac-12 conference.
Outside linebacker and strong safety Victor Payne has committed to play for the Kansas State Wildcats, while Ryland Gandy has signed with the University of Pittsburgh.
Josiah Wyatt will play for Appalachian State University, and CJ Clinkscales will be at Boston College.
Jackson Favors and Joseph Miller have both signed with Mercer in Macon, while Japhet Mubenga will go to Murray State University in Kentucky.
Nathan Norys has committed to Lenoir-Rhyne, and Je’marcus White will play for Hampden-Sydney College.
At Lanier High School, offensive and defensive lineman Luke Jones has committed to play for the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Division 1 football team.
Thomas Carson is headed to North Carolina to attend and play for Lenoir-Rhyne University, and Anthony Ramos will go to Ohio to play for Oberlin.
From North Gwinnett High School, cornerback Jordan Buchanan will join the Boilermakers at Purdue University in Indiana, and running back Marcus McFarlane has signed with Phoenix football at Elon University in North Carolina.
