A Suwanee man who resides on Lake Haven Way reported to police that he had checks stolen from his mailbox on January 21, 2020.  The man had left the checks in his mailbox for the USPS to pick up and send on to their intended recipients.

The victim found out that on the next day, January 22, that his checks had not made it to their intended recipients. Instead, an unknown man visited the Home Depot on Stone Mountain Highway and purchased over $3,000 worth of items with the victim’s check.  The suspect later returned the items, receiving cash in exchange.

Investigators have received a preliminary identification on the suspect.  Once the suspect is charged, his identity will be released by the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The United States Postal Service recommends placing outgoing mail in a designated USPS collection box or hand-delivering the mail to your nearest post office to help prevent identity theft and fraud.
