Lanier High School’s band program is a toddler in comparison to other band programs in the area like North Gwinnett and Buford.  North opened in 1958 and Buford in 1948 while Lanier opened in 2010. Just because Lanier is a young program does not mean that it is not a top-notch program.  Every year the Longhorns Marching Band has made great strides.

The 105-member strong marching band under direction from Benjamin Tingle competed in three competitions this year where they performed Midnight Train to Georgia.  They earned excellent to superior ratings in every competition and never finished lower than third-place.  Their drum major, Camryn Flores earned first-place and/or superior ratings in every competition, as did their percussion section.

In their last competition of the season, the Longhorns traveled to South Forsyth High School to compete in the North Georgia Marching Band Championships.  At the event on October 27th, Lanier had their best competition of the season. They received straight superior ratings in all classes: drum major, percussion, color guard, and band.  In their class 2-A, the Longhorns placed first in drum major, color guard, percussion, and received a first-place ranking along with Woodland High School in band. The tiebreaker for band went in favor of Woodland High School, ultimately putting Lanier in second.  The Longhorns band gave their all in every competition and this was recognized with them picking up the Spirit Award in two of their competitions.

The Lanier High School Marching Band had a season to be proud of, a season that said that Lanier’s band is as good as any out there.  Congratulations on a successful season!
