Sophomore Adriana Martinez hits her sixth home run of the season, a two-run homer in the top of the first inning to give Buford the early lead in a Region 8-AAAAAA game against Habersham Central on Thursday in Mt. Airy. Buford would earn the win over Habersham Central with a final score of 7-2.
Junior Olivia Duncan (8-2) records the win after putting in four innings of work. She gave up two hits, no runs and struck out six batters. Senior Olivia Haag would get the save as she took over for Duncan in the fifth inning. Haag would give up three hits, two earned runs and she struck out three opponents.
Offensively, Martinez led the pack as she was 2-for-2 with a two-run home run, three RBIs and scored two runs. Other offensive standouts for the Lady Wolves were Mackenzie Pickens (1-for-4, two RBIs and one run scored), Duncan (2-for-4, one RBI and a run scored) and Madison Pickens (1-for-4, double and two runs scored).
Buford (19-2-1, 10-2) will have a little time to recouperate after playing four games in four days as their next game will not be until Tuesday, Oct. 5 at the Buford Softball Complex. The Lady Wolves will have a double-header against region opponent Shiloh. Prior to the first game against Shiloh, Buford will hold their Senior Night celebrations.
