After a successful season within Buford athletics, all of the head coaches are returning for the 2024-25 academic year. Some notable assistant coach changes were made to multiple sports, however, all of the leaders are staying in place.
“I think it speaks volumes about the fact that Buford City Schools is a great place to work and coach,” athletic director and wrestling coach Tom Beuglas said. “The facilities, the community, the support from the City of Buford, the Board of Education and our central office make this place special.
“Our coaches realize this and do not want to coach anywhere else.”
In the previous academic year, Buford won 7A state championships in softball, boys’ lacrosse and gymnastics (6A-7A). Here’s a recap of all of the athletic achievements throughout 2023-24.
Softball: 32-0, region champions, state champions under Trent Adams
Volleyball: 25-9, region champions, state tournament round of 16 under Christina Lecoeuvre
Girls Cross Country: 14th place at state under Matt Johnson
Boys Cross Country: 20th place at state
Competition Cheer: State runner-up under Becca Powell
Football: 11-2, state quarterfinals under Bryant Appling
Flag Football: Inaugural season under Sean Gilbert
Game Day Cheer: Eighth place at state under Caroline Parker
Boys Basketball: 25-4, region championship and state second round under Wes Parker
Girls Basketball: 27-3, region championship and state quarterfinals under Gene Durden
Dance Team: Second in state (Jazz), Third in state (Pom)
Riflery: 10th at state under Marianne Cagle
Swim and Dive: Girls 19th in state, Boys 25th in state under Kali Dasher
Wrestling: Runners-up in state duals and state traditional under Beuglas
Baseball: 25-10, region champions, state quarterfinals under Stuart Chester
Bass Fishing: Four state qualifiers under Casey Laws
Boys Golf: One state qualifier under Chad Roberts
Girls Golf: State qualifiers under Makimsey Morris
