Art on a Limb kicks off in Suwanee

Throughout the month of May, Suwanee residents and visitors to the city should keep an eye out for pieces of artwork hidden among the foliage as Suwanee’s annual Art on A Limb program commences.

Beginning Sunday, May 1, and continuing through May, two pieces of artwork will be hidden daily in foliage along one of the greenways or within city parks. It’s finders keepers for anyone who locates one of the ornaments created from scrap galvanized metal and welded into unique creatures hand painted with a folk art design.

The artwork is by Ohio-based artist Anna Fleckenstein and her daughters, who began painting the pieces while they were in college to contribute to household expenses as Fleckenstein is a single mother.

“I challenge people to try not to smile when viewing our whimsical garden critters,” Fleckenstein said. “We hope that they really brighten the art seeker’s day.”

Colorful pieces with lots of character, Fleckenstein said the creative creatures can be used as yard ornaments.

“It should make someone look at it when they are coming to your yard,” she said. “Art is many things, but to me it’s whimsical and should feel good.”
