The Sugar Hill Art Gallery recently announced an upcoming exhibition featuring the acclaimed artist Olu Amoda, the 2023 Hudgens Prize recipient.
Olu Amoda, originally from Okere-Warri, has gained international recognition for his unique and innovative multimedia art.
“A social construct emerged from the dialogue of steel, its materiality, and repurposing to create familiar subjects from social media and intuitively from my life experiences. Each sculpture has a linear dimension and mass weight, which mimic each subject matter invertedly,” stated Amoda.
Amoda’s work explores socio-political issues related to Nigerian culture. He delves into complex themes such as sex, politics, race and conflict, consumerism, and economic distribution. Throughout his career, Amoda has received numerous prestigious awards for his work. His collection “Sunflower” won the top prize at the DAK’ART Biennale in Dakar, Senegal in 2014.
Additionally, his portfolio review earned him the 2023 Hudgens Prize in Atlanta.
