Buford 68, Collins Hill 48
The Buford varsity boys basketball team defeated Collins Hill 68-48 in Region 8-AAAAAAA play at the Buford Arena on Friday night, Feb. 3. The Wolves were able to pull away from the Eagles due in large part to better shooting as they pulled off three-pointer after three-pointer over their opponent.
Standouts for Buford were London Williams (16 points), Torre Costin (12 points), Chase Robinson (11 points) and Cameron Kelly (eight points).
The Wolves’ overall season record improves to 17-6, 7-2.
Buford will play their final game of the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 7 against a region opponent, Dacula at the Buford Arena. Game starts at 7:30 p.m.
Lanier 77, Gainesville 51
The Lanier varsity boys team traveled to play Gainesville on Friday night, Feb. 3 in Region 8-AAAAAA competition with the Longhorns defeating the Red Elephants 77-51.
Top performers for the Longhorns were Tahai Morgan (19 points), Osmar Garcia-Araujo (18 points, 15 rebounds, four assists), Jayce Nathaniel (15 points, 14 rebounds) and Landon Suarez (nine points).
Lanier, currently ranked third in Class AAAAAA, improves to 19-4, 10-0 on their season.
Up next for the Longhorns is another region game, this time at Habersham Central on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Girls basketball
Buford 62, Collins Hill 49
Senior Taylor Romano led the Lady Wolves to a 62-49 victory over Collins Hill in Region 8-AAAAAAA competition on Friday night, Feb. 3 at the Buford Arena. Romano scored 17 points in the win.
The Lady Wolves also got strong performances from junior Ava Grace Watson (12 points) and junior Betty Nguyen (11 points).
Buford’s overall record improves to 21-2, 9-0.
Up next for the Lady Wolves is a non-region home game against Holy Innocents Episcopal on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m.
Gainesville 43, Lanier 41
Lanier’s varsity girls basketball team dropped a tough region game to Gainesville 43-41 on Friday night, Feb. 3 at Gainesville.
The Lady Longhorns’ top performers were Asja Howell (13 points, 13 rebounds), Ajanae Jones (nine points, three rebounds), Damilare Falade (six points), Jordan Johnson (six points), Gamyzhae Williams (eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, two blocks) and Harmony Williams (eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, two blocks).
Lanier’s overall season record falls to 14-9, 6-4.
Up next for Lanier is a Region 8-AAAAAA game at Habersham Central on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.
