Lanier 73, North Clayton 26
The Lanier boys varsity basketball team opened the Deep South Classic tournament hosted by Brookwood on Wednesday, Dec. 28, playing North Clayton. Jayce Nathaniel led the Longhorns’ offense with 15 points and nine rebounds in Lanier’s 73-26 win.
Other standouts for Lanier were Daveon Johnson (12 points), Osmar Garcia-Araujo (12 points), Tahai Morgan (eight points), Landon Suarez (eight points) and Amari Morgan (eight points).
Lanier continues play in the Deep South Classic at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, in the maroon gym at Brookwood High School. Their opponent is Collins Hill.
Buford 59, Walnut Grove 44
The Buford boys varsity basketball team defeated Walnut Grove in the opening round of the inaugural Buford Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Buford Arena.
The Wolves play Carrollton in the next round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29. The winner of that game will play in the finals at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30. Both games will be held at the Buford Arena.
