North Gwinnett 51, Berkmar 49

North Gwinnett pulled off a close win over fellow Region 7-AAAAAAA opponent Berkmar 51-49 on Friday, Jan. 20 at home. The Bulldogs improve to 8-10, 6-2.

Up next for the Bulldogs is a non-region away game against St. Pius on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m.

Lanier 64, Apalachee 28

The Lanier Longhorns get a region win on the road at Apalachee in dominant fashion with a final score of 64-28 on Friday, Jan. 20 . Lanier improves to 15-4, 6-0 and is currently ranked first in Region 8-AAAAAA and third in the state in Class AAAAAA.

Standouts for Lanier against Apalachee were junior Jayce Nathaniel (17 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks, three assists), senior Osmar Garcia-Araujo (12 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, three assists), senior Daveon Johnson (12 points, four rebounds, two blocks) and junior Tahai Morgan (10 points).

Lanier will have another region game on Tuesday, Jan. 24 against North Forsyth at home. Game starts at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

Buford 74, Dacula 47

Buford’s varsity girls basketball team defeats Dacula 74-47 on the road in Region 8-AAAAAAA competition on Friday, Jan. 20.

Up next for Buford is a home game against Mountain View on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Buford Arena.

North Gwinnett 74, Berkmar 7

The North Gwinnett varsity girls basketball team sails past Berkmar 74-7 to get a win in Region 7-AAAAAAA on Friday, Jan. 20 at home. The team improves to 9-10, 6-2.

Senior Ava Watson led the Lady Bulldogs on the offense with 21 points. Additional standouts for North Gwinnett were junior Jada Monroe and senior Danyale Austin with eight points each while freshman Sydney Bowman contributed with nine points.

The Lady Bulldogs will face St. Pius in a non-region away game on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m.

Lanier 63, Apalachee 23

The Lanier girls basketball team defeats fellow Region 8-AAAAAA opponent Apalachee 63-23 on Friday, Jan. 20 at Apalachee. The Lady Longhorns are currently in third in their region and have an overall record of 12-7, 4-2.

Asja Howell led the Lady Longhorns with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals. Other standouts for Lanier against Apalachee were Damilare Falade (14 points, three rebounds, four steals), Gamyzhae Williams (10 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals) and Harmony Williams (eight points, two rebounds, three assists, three blocks, seven steals).

Up next for Lanier is a region home game against North Forsyth on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m.
