The 15th annual Buford City Schools Art Show was held at the Buford City Arena on March 18th. Throughout the years it has grown, and this year, the show boasted over 250 pieces of artwork.
Buford, being a smaller school system has allowed some students to have their artwork chosen for multiple years. “It is nice to see how much their artistic abilities develop over the years.” Mrs. Wright, an art teacher at Buford Academy, said when asked what her favorite thing about being a part of the show was. On the Elementary school level, 50 pieces are chosen each year based on the aesthetics, creativity, and neatness of the artwork. Any artwork completed during the school year can be selected to be a part of the show. Amazing clay and photographic works of art were displayed from the Middle School. The High School had pieces from all of the visual arts classes offered at the school including pastels, sculptures, wood, paper mache, and even a pair of sneakers were transformed into art.
Submissions from the high school were voted on in three different categories.
Visual Art, Best in Show went to Alexa Rossum, 1st place Trey Smith, 2nd place Abigail Duncan and finishing in 3rd, Ethan Edwards.
Advanced Art winner for Best in Show was Josie Taylor, 1st place Corinne Cookson, 2nd place Eduardo Yanez, and 3rd place Jordan Sullivan.
The 3-D Art winner for Best in Show was Francisco Sanchez. 1st place went to Tristen Palmero, 2nd place Gavin Smith, and 3rd was Ivy Xiong.
Winners of Best in Show will receive $150 each in cash prizes.
