Athletes like Nelson Montini are a coach’s dream.  He has natural talent combined with a great work ethic.  Nelson’s hard work is paying off as he signed his letter of intent to swim at Gardner – Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC.  Gardner – Webb is a Division I school which makes Montini the first ever student to sign a Division I scholarship for swimming at Buford.

Montini has set a new standard for male swimmers at BHS.  He has broken all but two of the eleven school swimming records. He’s even broken many of them multiple times and has even broke a few more than once in a single meet.

All four years Nelson Montini has been at Buford, he has represented BHS at the state championships.  His last appearance at state earned him another school record. He is the highest ever BHS male to compete.  His other accomplishments during his journey at BHS were finishing 4th in the 100 yd freestyle as well as 7th in the 200 yd freestyle.

BHS Head Swim and Dive Coach, Heather Jenkins states, “In addition to his contributions as an athlete, he has also excelled at academics carrying a 4.0 GPA.  Nelson is an outstanding student-athlete and we look forward to his future success.”
