The Buford baseball team completed a three-game series against the Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs to clinch the Region 8-AAAAAA title this week.

No. 1 ranked Buford faced a tough opponent in Brady House and No. 19 ranked Winder-Barrow however, the Wolves outscored their opponent 21-4 over the course of the three games.

Buford officially clinched the region in the second game where they beat Winder-Barrow 10-0 in five innings behind the pitching of junior Jackson Gaspard. Gaspard struck out eight batters including House. House is projected to be a top pick in the 2021 MLB draft.  Gaspard only allowed one hit in his five innings of work.

On the offense, Gaspard would also shine going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Other offensive notables include Riley Stanford (2-for-3, double, triple, three RBIs), Stan Zagrodnik (2-for-2, three RBIs, walk off HR in bottom of 5th), Ayden DiGiacomo (1-for-3, one RBI), Brett Rogers (1-for-2, double), Brant Baughcum (1-for-3) and Nate Smith (1-for-3).

In the third and final game of region play, Buford would once again leave Winder-Barrow scoreless beating them 3-0.  Senior Jax Brockett recorded the win pitching all seven innings allowing only two hits and striking out 12.

Leading Buford’s offense was Treyton Rank (2-for-3), DiGiacomo (3-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs), Stanford (one hit, one RBI) and Smith (1-for-2).

Buford’s overall season record is now 28-0.

The Wolves have one final regular-season game left. They face AAAAAAA Grayson on Thursday, April 22 at 5:55 p.m. at Gerald McQuaig Field.
