BUFORD — Both the Buford boys and girls basketball teams win their first-round playoff games to advance to the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
Playing at the Arena, the Buford girls team defeated Grady 76-44 in this first round while the Buford boys team earn a victory over Decatur with a final score of 75-57.
For the Buford girls (27-1) was led offensively by junior Blair Wallis who scored 23 points (five three-pointers), five rebounds, and five steals. Other notables include Tatum Ozment with 14 points and five rebounds, Tate Walters contributed 13 points and had three steals, and Ashyia Willis added four points, nine assists, and five steals.
The Buford boys (21-6) had Caleb Blackwell lead scoring with 16 points while James Munlyn had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Caleb Williams added 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals. Also key were Sebastian Augustave with nine points and five assists and Jaylon Taylor who contributed six points, five rebounds, and five blocked shots.
The Buford girls basketball team will host Wayne County on either Feb. 19 or 20 at the Buford Arena and the Buford boys will host Statesboro.
