At its Jan. 27 meeting, the Buford Board of Education officially named Dr. Amy Chafin superintendent of the Buford City School System.
Chafin will replace current Superintendent Melanie Reed, who will retire effective June 1.
“I am honored to be named the Superintendent and am very appreciative to Mrs. Reed for her leadership and guidance,” Chafin said. “I certainly have big shoes to fill. It is also very humbling to know the Board of Education has confidence in me to lead our school system with a continued commitment to excellence. I am thrilled to continue serving this school district, which I love so much.”
Over the past eight years, Chafin has served in several leadership roles within the school district, including curriculum director since 2017, assistant superintendent for student achievement since March 2021 and in her current role as deputy superintendent since January 2022. With 31 years of experience in education, she has worked as a teacher at both the middle and high school levels, as a school improvement specialist, testing director, curriculum director, federal programs director and CTAE director.
Chafin holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in secondary education, a specialist degree in educational leadership and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction.
