BUFORD — On Tuesday, Buford City Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Downs announced several new appointments for staff at the school’s central office.
Assistant superintendent Mrs. Melanie Reed has been appointed to the position of deputy superintendent, where she will focus on leading the operations at the central office. Reed has faithfully served the students, families and staff at BCS for the past 27 years.
Dr. Amy Chafin, who most recently served as the director of curriculum and instruction, has been tapped as the assistant superintendent for student achievement. In her new role, Chafin will use her 14 years of experience as a district administrator to “continue to guide and direct all of the student services.”
Filling the position of executive director of curriculum and instruction is Mrs. Sara Lingerfelt. Lingerfelt is a Buford graduate who has served BCS for the past 18 years as an assistant principal, a Powerschool administrator and a curriculum director.
Fellow Buford graduate Dr. Lacrecia Smith has been appointed as a director of curriculum and instruction. She has been with BCS for 25 years serving as a teacher in the second and third grades, as well as teaching English as a second
language (ESOL). Most recently, Smith has served as the director of diversity and inclusion. She will continue to oversee the Diversity and Inclusion Office in addition to her new position. Her former position will be filled by a certified gifted and ESOL supervisor.
Downs’ announcement did not indicate what prompted these changes, however, the appointments are already familiar faces to the students, parents and staff at Buford City Schools.
