Media specialist Katie Rope is Buford Elementary’s Teacher of the Year.
Buford Academy’s Teacher of the Year is third grade teacher Caroline Raspotnik.
Kimberly Dorminy, who works in special education, is Teacher of the Year for Buford Senior Academy.
Math teacher Stacey Baldwin is Buford Middle School’s Teacher of the Year.
Kristie Whelchel, who also teaches math, has been named Buford High School’s Teacher of the Year.
“The candidates for Georgia Teacher of the Year (TOTY) are exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and are skilled educators who are planning to continue in active teaching status,” Superintendent Melanie Reed said, “… an educator who inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn; an educator who has the respect and admiration of students, parents and colleagues; an educator who plays an active and useful role in the community as well as in the school; and one who is poised and articulate and possesses the energy to withstand a taxing schedule.”
Classroom teachers from kindergarten through 12th grade and media specialists with at least three years experience and one full academic year with Buford City Schools are eligible to be nominated for Teacher of the Year. Three nominees are named for each school and then voted on by staff.
“The entire BCSS District would like to recognize these outstanding educators who inspire our students to perform with excellence every day,” Reed said.
