Alex Muniz

Alexander Hernandez Muniz, a fifth grader at Buford Senior Academy, enjoys reading books about World War II. His favorite writer is Alan Gratz, a New York Times bestselling author of books for young readers, including several historical novels that take place during World War II. Alex said he likes Gratz’s books because they have really good endings.

Alex has been selected as Reader of the Week by Buford Senior Academy Media Specialist Emily Stewart.

“I chose Alex because he is always so excited to talk about his favorite books with me,” Stewart said. “We both share a love of Alan Gratz novels and historical fiction, so we always discuss the different historical pieces addressed in each novel and how beautifully Gratz tells the different stories.”

“Alexander is an amazing reader and he incorporates his love of history when he chooses books,” said Alex’s English/language arts teacher, Mrs. Stacey Schmidt. “His favorite genre is historical fiction and any books focusing on WWII.”

Alex’s hobbies include playing with army men, selling canvases and, of course, reading historical novels. Alex would like to become an architect when he grows up because “it has good pay and it’s a very cool job drawing houses.”

The Buford City Schools Reader of the Week spotlight is made possible by the generosity of Peoples Bank & Trust, 1899 Buford Highway, Buford GA 30518, (770) 932-1900.
