Buford Senior Academy fifth grader Kiki De Jesus has read more than 3 million words this school year. She is also team captain for her English/language arts class’ classroom reading challenge, and her team, Just Read It!, has earned more points than any other team.
With these accomplishments, Kiki has been selected as Reader of the Week!
Kiki’s favorite book series is “Wings of Fire” by New York Times bestselling author Tui T. Sutherland. The fantasy-adventure series follows young dragons as they work to end conflicts peacefully.
“‘Wings of Fire’ is my favorite book series because I love fantasy and mysteries, and it was a really good series that I enjoyed,” Kiki said.
“Not only is she a great friend and helper to her peers, but (Kiki) is also a model student,” said Mrs. Sandi Brewer, Kiki’s English/language arts teacher. “She is extremely motivated in the classroom to excel in all areas. She has a positive attitude daily and puts forth effort to complete all assignments. … It has been an absolute joy to be her teacher. I know she is going to be very successful next year at BMS!”
Kiki likes to read, draw and participate in gymnastics. She has one sister. When she grows up, Kiki would like to become a dermatologist because she has had eczema and she wants to help other kids, as well as adults.
Congratulations, Kiki, on being an outstanding reader!
