The Reader of the Week is Mia Yedvobnick.
Mia is in Mrs. Sentelle’s first grade class at Buford Academy. Her parents are Leslie and Andy, and she is big sister to Emma.
Mia loves to read the Adventures of Sophie Mouse series by Poppy Green.
“Mia was a little nervous to begin reading chapter books because they are so much longer than a storybook,” said Lana Nix, media specialist at Buford Academy. “I asked if she would like to read with me in the media center and see how it goes. We would read in the mornings together, and wow! It did not take long for Mia to see she was ready for those longer books. She is an amazing reader.”
Nix recalls reading her first chapter book with Mia, encouraging her and building her self-confidence.
“Now she comes running into the media center with a huge smile on her face to tell me how well she did on her AR test for her latest chapter book,” Nix said.
Outside of school, Mia has been learning ballet and is excited about her upcoming recital. She loves visiting the park with her family, and the slide is her favorite. Soon, Mia will begin playing soccer. She said she enjoys “playing defender so the other team does not score in (her) goal.”
“Mia is a beautiful young lady, and I am beyond blessed to watch her grow in her journey of reading,” Nix said. “I am so very proud of her and love to see the spark she has to be such a wonderful reader.”
Congratulations, Mia! Keep on reading!
