Buford Academy second graders Brantley and Colton McElroy are avid and accomplished readers.
“Brantley and Colton were both an easy pick for (the Reader Spotlight) because of their phenomenal reading growth this year,” says Lana Nix, Buford Academy media specialist. “They are knocking it out of the park!”
Nix says the dynamic reading duo are Irish twins, with Brantley being the older brother. Brantley is in Mrs. Humble’s class and Colton is in Mr. Marquez’s class.
Brantley enjoys reading books by Ron Roy, David Pilkey and Ray O’Ryan — Nix said he had a difficult time selecting a favorite author because he has so many to choose from. Colton, however, was quick to name author David Pilkey and Pilkey’s book “Dog Man” as his favorites.
Brantley and Colton are the sons of Jenna and John McElroy. They have an older brother, Rylan, who is a sixth grader at Buford Senior Academy. Mom Jenna is a second grade teacher at Buford Academy.
Both Brantley and Colton enjoy playing lacrosse — Brantley likes to play defense and midfielder, while Colton likes to play attack. The boys enjoy playing video games and going on hikes with their family.
In addition to their achievements in reading, Nix said, “The other thing that stands out with both of these boys is their manners towards everyone. So respectful and caring. Keep up the great work boys! You are truly amazing Buford Wolves!”
