Advancing to chapter books is a significant accomplishment for a young reader, and Buford Academy student Rey Rodriquez has reached that milestone!

“Rey has worked extremely hard this year on his reading and made it to chapter books,” says Lana Nix, media specialist at Buford Academy.

A student in Mrs. Schmid’s third grade class, Rey says his favorite books are part of the Pedro series. The series, written by author Fran Manushkin and illustrated by Tammie Lyon, follows the fun-loving adventures of a Hispanic American boy named Pedro with titles such as “Pedro, First-Grade Hero,” “Pedro’s Mystery Club” and “Pedro the Ninja.”

Rey says the Pedro books make him laugh.

Rey’s family includes his mom, Leti, his dad, Rey, and sisters Daniela, a student at Buford High School, and Paloma, a student at Buford Middle School, as well as a dog named Bobby.

Rey, whose favorite colors are blue and black, also loves to play soccer.

“Rey always says hello when he visits the media center and has great manners,” Mrs. Nix said. “We are so proud of his accomplishments and he should be as well.”

Congratulations, Rey, on being selected as a Reader Spotlight! Keep on reading!

The Buford City Schools Reader Spotlight is made possible by the generosity of Peoples Bank & Trust, 1899 Buford Highway, Buford GA 30518, (770) 932-1900.
