Alex Riquelme-Apaez is a sixth grader at Buford Middle School. He was born right here in Buford, and he has been attending Buford City Schools since he was in kindergarten. Alex has an older sister, Daisy, who is a senior at BHS this year.
Alex’s teachers have the highest praise for him. His math teacher, Ethan Burke, spends a lot of the day with Alex and said Alex is one of the most positive students he has ever taught.
“He is a great role model for students and teachers alike, because no matter what is going on, he has a smile and a laugh that warms your heart,” Burke said.
During his free time, Alex loves to get out on the field and play soccer. When he is not playing soccer, Alex enjoys playing video games. He especially likes to play Nintendo, and his favorite games to play are the Mario games.
At school, Alex’s favorite subject is science. He enjoys learning about the earth and how things work around him. He also enjoys learning about animals and the wonders of nature. When Alex grows up, he wants to use his love of science to go to college and become a scientist.
Alex’s teachers said he always has a smile on his face, and he is a positive influence on the other students to be happy and enjoy life. They said Alex always enjoys the little things. He is the first to point out when someone is being kind, and he worries if someone is upset and tries to find a way to help. Principal Laura Beth Short said Alex’s happiness is always sure to rub off on others
“Alex smiles under his mask so big that his joy shines through to everyone around him,” she said.
Short said Alex also has a huge heart, he studies hard, he listens attentively and he never gives up.
Alex is an excellent student and a perfect example of what it means to be a Buford Wolf. We are so proud of Alex and his hard work each and every day. His attitude and dedication are inspiring, and his happiness is sure to brighten anyone’s day.
Congratulations, Alex. Keep up the great work!
