Teniola Oshin says staying persistent, even in stressful situations, has allowed him to achieve his goals, and it’s the most important lesson he has learned while a student at Buford High School.
Teniola’s academic interests include learning the ins and outs of computer science and filming. His favorite class is Audio, Visual, Technology and Film. He enjoys the subject and loves making videos with the friends he has met through the class.
Nicholas Beshiri, Buford High School’s AVTF teacher, has come to be Teniola’s favorite teacher.
“Mr Beshiri has had a large impact on my life by giving me and other students a lot of independence with film projects,” Teniola says. “This independence has allowed me to make mistakes by myself, learn to overcome them, and strive to better myself with my own conviction and not due to the demands of others.”
Teniola is taking his love for technology past graduation and plans to attend Georgia Tech to study computer science. He has earned acceptance to GT by taking many rigorous courses at BHS while still maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
Teniola has earned several achievements throughout his high school career — he was named a College Board African American Scholar, is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and finished in seventh place in Video Production at the Future Business Leaders of America state conference.
He is a member of three clubs: FBLA, SkillsUSA and Chess Club.
When not in school, Teniola enjoys talking to friends on Discord, reading and watching movies and E-sports. His favorite activity is playing the mobile game Brawlhalla.
In addition to juggling school work and his hobbies, Teniola assists a special needs class at Tae Kwon Do Seoul, works as a part-time cashier and attends Gwinnett Church every Sunday morning.
When asked what advice he would share with underclassmen, Teniola says, “One piece of advice I would give is to work on your time management. If you improve your time management you will be able to accomplish a lot of your goals.”
Teniola is the son of Abimbola and Olubunmi Oshin. He has two younger brothers, Okikiola and Oriola. Okikiola is 16 and attends Lanier High School, and Oriola is 12 and attends North Gwinnett Middle School.
Teniola began attending Buford City Schools when he was in second grade. He is thankful for the move and the opportunities it has provided him.
“I am thankful to my parents and God for giving me so much and getting me to where I am today,” Teniola says.
