BUFORD — A police officer reports seeing smoke coming from a Buford clothing business overnight and firefighters work quickly to minimize the damage to the business.
An officer reported to dispatch that no flames were visible but smoke was coming from ML Fashions located at 2713 Faith Industrial Dr. NE in Buford at approximately 2:25 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:32 a.m. and found smoke pouring from the top-right corner of the one-story commercial building. A portable ground attack firefighting monitor was deployed. According to the release sent by the Gwinnett County Fire Department, the monitor is a “self-oscillating device” that provided “cooling and protection.”
Commanders made the decision to use aerial ladders to ensure that the fire did not spread and run the roofline. With the large volume of water that the turrets on the ladder trucks can produce, the flames were extinguished. Foam was also used to prevent the fire from spreading to a large amount of clothing inside the warehouse. They had the fire knocked down at 3:10 a.m. and under control by 4:12 a.m.
Firefighters searched the structure occupants which turned up with no one inside of the business.
“Per the Incident Commander, all of the contents sustained heavy smoke damage with fire damage being confined to the right side of the building. Personnel worked quickly and with purpose to minimize damage,” says Lt. Donald Struther, Gwinnett FD Assistant Public Information Officer.
Fire investigators worked throughout Thursday to try to find the source of the fire.
This fire was met with a large response from the Gwinnett County Fire Department. Units responding to the scene were 5-Engines, 2-Ladder Trucks, 1-Squad, 1-Hazmat Truck, 1-Medic Unit, 1-Specialty Rehab Unit, 1-Air and Light Truck, 1-Medical Supervisor, 2-Battalion Chiefs, 1-District Chief, 1-Fire Investigator and 1-PIO.
