BUFORD — In a battle between the last two undefeated teams in Georgia, Buford’s dominance continued as the Wolves shut out Eastside 5-0 on Thursday night, capping a perfect 28-0 regular season.
Senior pitcher Caroline Stanton was untouchable in the circle, striking out 12 while walking none in a complete-game effort. Eastside, which entered the matchup averaging nine runs per game, managed just three scattered hits and never advanced a runner past second base. The shutout marked Stanton’s sixth of the season and her eighth complete game.
Buford broke through in the second inning when junior Ella Pierce Hensley ripped a two-out double to score courtesy runner Mackenzie Fritisch. In the third, junior Janie Goldin led off with a double, then came home on an errant throw as she stole third to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Wolves added three more runs in the fifth. Senior Summer Castorri singled to start the inning before senior slugger Addie Rackley launched a two-run homer—her 13th of the season—to left field. Later in the inning, freshman LG Goldin laid down a perfect bunt single and scored on Stanton’s line-drive double to center, sealing the 5-0 win.
At the plate, Buford tallied 11 hits. Hensley went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Rackley finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Goldin added two hits, a run, and a stolen base, and junior Brooklyn Atha chipped in two hits of her own.
Buford’s defense was flawless, committing no errors and turning a double play, while Goldin led the team with 13 fielding chances.
The Wolves now turn their focus to the postseason, beginning with a matchup against Colquitt County on Monday.
