Buford’s varsity softball team defeated East Coweta 9-1 to take home the GHSA Class AAAAAAA State Championship title on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Columbus. This is Buford’s first state title in Class AAAAAAA and the program’s 11th overall state title.

Senior Olivia Duncan (13-1) pitched her 10th complete game of the season for the Wolves. She only gave up three hits, a walk and had one unearned run while striking out three batters.

Freshman Caroline Stanton scored first for the Wolves’ on the first pitch of her first at-bat of the game. She hit a two-run homerun to centerfield in the first inning and hit another two-run home run in the seventh inning. These were her 13th and 14th home runs of the season. Stanton would end the game going 2-for-4 with two two-run home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Additional offensive standouts for Buford were junior Tavye Borders (3-for-3, two runs scored, one stolen base), junior Adriana Martinez (3-for-4, one run scored) and senior Emma Castorri (1-for-2, two runs scored).

Buford ends their season with an overall record of 32-1 with their lone loss coming at the Super Regionals to Lambert.

The senior class which includes Duncan, Castorri, Emma Manders and Jenn Ramirez have a high school career record of 116-24-1.
