LAWRENCEVILLE — The Buford High School varsity baseball team fell to McEachern High School 4–0 on Saturday, Feb. 28, in the championship game of the Southeastern High School Baseball Classic at Coolray Field.
McEachern broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Jordan Stokes doubled and Malachi Butler added a sacrifice fly, each driving in a run.
The Indians added two more runs late to secure the win.
McEachern pitcher Chubb Jones Jr. earned the victory, allowing two hits over 6⅓ scoreless innings while striking out 12.
Buford starter Ryan Elliott kept the Wolves in the game early, pitching three hitless innings while striking out three. Sophomore Jacob Stecik took the loss in relief after allowing two runs in one inning.
Buford managed just two hits in the game, with Ian Chafin and Lio Garcia each recording a single.
McEachern finished with four hits and drew eight walks, while also stealing six bases.
Despite the loss, Buford moved to 7–1 overall and 3–0 in Region 8-6A play. The Wolves were scheduled to resume region competition Monday, March 2, hosting Collins Hill at Gerald McQuaig Field with first pitch set for 5:55 p.m..
