LOGANVILLE — Buford faced its first double-digit deficit of the season Friday night against Grayson.
The Wolves answered by scoring 23 of the game’s final 26 points.
Buford overcame an early 10-0 hole and used a fourth-quarter touchdown on a fake field goal to defeat Grayson 23-13 on Sept. 18, completing an unbeaten non-region schedule and extending its winning streak to 19 games.

The Wolves improved to 4-0 heading into Region 8-7A play after victories over Gainesville, Mallard Creek, Miami Central and Grayson.
Grayson struck first after intercepting Buford on the Wolves’ opening possession and converting the turnover into a field goal. The Rams added a 23-yard touchdown pass from Deuce Smith to Cam Hurst later in the opening quarter for a 10-0 lead.
Buford found the spark it needed on special teams.
A mishandled Grayson punt snap gave the Wolves possession in the red zone, and Jameer Cantrell scored on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter. Evan Griffeth’s extra point cut the deficit to 10-7.
Buford needed only three plays on its next scoring drive.
Starting from its own 13-yard line, quarterback DJ Hunter connected with Jaxson Patterson for a 50-yard gain before adding 16 yards on the ground. Hunter then found Braylon Williams for a 21-yard touchdown.
Officials conferred before confirming the catch, giving Buford its first lead of the night.
Griffeth added a 26-yard field goal with 1:12 remaining in the first half, sending the Wolves into the locker room with a 16-10 advantage after scoring on three consecutive possessions in the second quarter.
Grayson remained within striking distance and cut the lead to 16-13 on a 31-yard field goal late in the third quarter.
The Rams then appeared to have stopped another Buford scoring opportunity after the Wolves reached first-and-goal at the 2-yard line but failed to score on three consecutive plays.

Facing fourth down from the 4 with less than eight minutes remaining, Buford sent out its field-goal unit.
Instead of attempting the kick, holder Ian Chafin took the snap, stood and ran untouched into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown.
Griffeth’s extra point extended the lead to 23-13 with 7:50 remaining.
The fake-field-goal call came from special teams coordinator Andrew Dasher with approval from head coach Bryant Appling. Buford had practiced the play during the week, and Chafin’s touchdown provided the final points of the game.
Buford’s defense handled the rest, keeping Grayson off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.
The performance continued a strong early-season trend for the Wolves’ defense, which also shut out Mallard Creek and Miami Central after halftime in the previous two games.
Buford has won each of its first four games by at least 10 points.
The Wolves now turn their attention to Region 8-7A competition, opening region play Friday, Sept. 25, at Seckinger.
