Heath Bowman’s family has been a part of the Buford community for five generations, and the Buford High School graduate continues to make his mark not only locally, but regionally, as the founder and CEO of Southeastern Underdeck, a company that designs and constructs under deck rain carrying systems that create dry, usable spaces beneath elevated decks for residential homes.

Heath graduated in 1996 from Buford High School, where he participated in wrestling and football and enjoyed classes in math and physics.

“I was a better athlete than student,” Heath admits, adding, “I learned welding was not in my future after burning my foot in class.”

Heath was a two-time state champion in wrestling, and during his senior year, the Wolves’ football team posted a 13-1 season with an appearance in the state semifinals under first-year head coach Dexter Wood.

Heath says if he could repeat any high school activity, it would be football.

“The brotherhood you build while playing a team sport you never forget,” he says.

After graduating from Buford, Heath wrestled for Anderson University for two years.

Professionally, Heath began his career working for Masco and Installed Building Products, two leading companies in the building materials industry, where he was successful in expanding multiple locations, adding new product lines and developing relationships with vendors. Heath was introduced to an underdeck system in 2007 and went on to found Southeastern Underdeck, which is based in Buford. As founder and CEO, Heath works alongside his wife, Lindsay Bowman, who manages accounting for the company.

With 20 years of experience in metal fabrication and more than 10 years of experience with new product integration, Heath has led Southeastern Underdeck to become one of the top companies in the building industry in the southeastern part of the country. In 2022, Heath’s business was named Atlanta’s best underdeck systems company by “My Home Improvement Magazine,” a monthly publication and resource for remodeling, landscaping, design and home maintenance. This was the eighth consecutive year Southeastern Underdeck had been honored.

Heath is the immediate past president of the North American Deck and Railing Association and served as a board member for 10 years. He is also a member of the National Association of Home Builders and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

Heath is the son of Harold Bowman and Holle Knox. He has two siblings, Logan Bowman and Chris Knox, who both attended North Gwinnett High School.

In his free time, Heath enjoys flying, boating, snowboarding and woodworking.

Heath maintains strong connections to the Buford community — his company is locally based, and his children, Kaleb and Hadley, both attend Buford City Schools.
