BUFORD — The Buford City School System released details about their 2020 Commencement plans. The plans for a traditional graduation ceremony have been up in the air since the COVID-19 pandemic canceled school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year and forced schools all over the country to postpone or cancel graduation.
“Though the current statistics are encouraging we feel that it is prudent to allow as much time as possible to ensure our community’s safety,” said Buford City Schools in a statement released Friday.
This year’s BHS graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020, at 7 p.m. at the Buford Arena. More details will be released closer to the graduation ceremony to go over the current social distancing procedures to comply with the latest guidelines from the CDC and the Georgia Department of Public Health. These plans are subject to change should Governor Kemp release new guidance on the matter.
“We sought input regarding graduation options from our senior parents and BHS faculty, and there was an overwhelming response wanting to conduct a traditional graduation,” Buford City Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Downs said. “Our seniors moved to the new high school for their last year only to have that time cut short due to COVID-19. The BHS faculty have worked diligently to celebrate our seniors to mitigate their losses and we look forward to providing a ceremony to honor their accomplishments.”
