Deputies from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Poplar Place around 5 p.m. on Saturday in response to a domestic dispute that involved a gunshot. Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth stated witnesses at the location provided a detailed account of the incident, enabling the officers to identify the suspect as Roger Wayne Ballew, aged 66. Additional deputies arrived quickly and were able to locate and detain the suspect without further incident in the neighborhood.
Investigators say Ballew threatened and pointed a gun at a woman inside the home that he was in a verbal dispute with. He fired one shot that hit a door the victim was leaning against. Ballew also reportedly pushed a 17-year-old boy who was trying to intervene. No one was injured in the incident, and Ballew then left the home.
Ballew was booked into the Hall County Jail on a list of charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm and terroristic threats and acts.
