Players with both the Buford and North Gwinnett varsity softball teams received recognition for their hard work this season when they won awards in their regions.
Buford
In Region 8-AAAAAAA, the Player of the Year award went to Buford freshman Caroline Stanton. She had a remarkable freshman season leading her teammates with the highest batting average (.425), home runs (14), RBIs (37), slugging percentage (1.013) and OPS (1.492). In addition to a great season at the plate, she also gave a good solid performance on the mound where she was 11-0 with a 0.79 earned run average or ERA. Besides pitching for Buford, she also plays left field.
The Region 8-AAAAAAA Pitcher of the Year award went to another Buford player, senior Olivia Duncan. The Clemson commit pitched 87 innings this season with a 1.61 ERA. Duncan led the Buford pitchers with 87 strikeouts, averaging 8.29 strikeouts per game. Opponents that faced Duncan could only manage 0.195 batting average when going up against the lefty. She pitched to 338 batters this season walking only six.
Receiving Region 8-AAAAAAA First Team All-Region honors from Buford were junior Adriana Martinez (first base), junior Madison Pickens (catcher) and junior Mackenzie Pickens (short stop).
Second Team All-Region 8-AAAAAAA honors from Buford were junior Tavye Borders (center field), junior Emma Grace Williams (pitcher) and sophomore Isabel Rettiger (right field).
North Gwinnett
North Gwinnett High School’s varsity softball team took the top two awards for Region 7-AAAAAAA when senior Bella Faw was named the Region Player of the Year and freshman Victoria Na received the Region Pitcher of the Year award. Faw is a Tennessee commit and on Sept. 29, she broke her school’s record for the most career hits at 150. She has since surpassed that number.
North Gwinnett Bulldogs named Region 7-AAAAAAA First Team All-Region were senior Landry Rabitsch, senior Ella Janish and senior Amber Reed.
Receiving Region 7-AAAAAAA Second Team All-Region honors for North Gwinnett were sophomore Olivia Chuck and sophomore Mary Grace Nellis.
