Buford defeats Mill Creek to win region dual title

The Buford varsity wrestling team defeated Mill Creek 45-24 in the Region 8-AAAAAAA Region Dual Championship finals held at Mountain View High School on Saturday, Jan. 7.

The Wolves easily handled Dacula 77-0 to advance to the final round to face a good Mill Creek team.

Buford wrestlers who won their weight classes against Mill Creek were D.J. Clarke, Ty Gentry, Kieron McCormack, Maddox McArthur, Drew Gorman, Gavin Pope, Grayson Santee, Conor McCloskey and Aaron Riner.

“Mill Creek is a top 3 team (in the state) and they have some outstanding wrestlers,” Buford head coach Tom Beuglas said. “Winning 9 of 14 matches and limiting bonus points was the key to our victory.”

Buford hosts its Sectional Dual at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Buford Arena. The Wolves will wrestle against Parkview and if Buford wins, they will take on the winner of the Cherokee and East Coweta matchup.

North Gwinnett claims region title by beating Norcross

The North Gwinnett varsity wrestling team won the Region 7-AAAAAAA Region Dual Championship by beating Norcross 54-27 on Saturday, Jan. 7.

The Bulldogs will participate in the Sectional Dual tournament at North Gwinnett High School on Saturday, Jan. 14. Their opponent will be Marietta. If they advance, they will compete against the winner of the Forsyth Central and Richmond Hill battle.
