Transportation company Norfolk Southern plans to address train blockages at railway crossings within the city of Buford, according to a statement released by U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde.
According to Clyde’s statement, he and Buford city officials met with representatives of Norfolk Southern on June 28 at Buford City Hall to discuss concerns about long-term blockages at six railway crossings within the city, citing delays in police, fire and EMS response times to emergency situations and concerns from city residents. According to the statement, Norfolk Southern’s representatives presented a plan to address the blockages, and representatives have remained in contact with Buford city officials as to progress made in addressing the issue.
“I applaud both the City of Buford and Norfolk Southern for their hard work in devising a plan to significantly reduce train-blocked railroad crossings in the community,” Clyde said in the statement. “This partnership swiftly executed a solution to alleviate anxieties, streamline operations, and improve living conditions for Buford residents and visitors.
“Enhancing the safety, well-being, and economic prosperity of Georgia’s Ninth District remains one of my top priorities,” Clyde continued, “and I’m thankful to both Buford City officials and Norfolk Southern representatives for working with my team to achieve this pivotal goal.”
