BUFORD — Fans were given a great show at the season-opening game between two nationally-ranked teams, Buford and Parkview. Both teams had a hard time putting points on the board until Buford broke out in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs. The Wolves defeated Parkview 3-0 at Gerald McQuaig Field.
Three pitchers went the distance for Buford keeping Parkview scoreless. Junior Dylan Lesko started the game for the Wolves struck out nine in four innings of work. Fellow junior Jackson Gaspard relieved Lesko in the fifth inning where he would put away four Parkview batters in two innings. Closing out the game for Buford in the seventh inning was junior Riley Stanford who knocked out Parkview’s hopes of a comeback after only three batters.
Both sides wouldn’t give an inch until the bottom of the fifth inning. Brent Baughcum drove in three runs with a double to the corner of left field. Stanford struck out three at the top of the seventh inning to end any chance for Parkview to win the game.
Buford (1-0) ended the game with five hits courtesy of two each from Baughcum and Lesko and one from Gaspard.
The Wolves will play AAAAAAA Lambert on Saturday.
