Buford High School sophomore Caroline Stanton pitched a perfect game in the varsity softball team’s 9-0 shutout against Collins Hill on Tuesday, extending the team’s winning streak to 10 games.
With 10 strikeouts in five innings while allowing no hits, no runs and no walks, Stanton propelled Buford to its third win in region competition. The team is now 10-0 on the season. Tuesday’s game, which was held at the Buford Softball Complex, was called in the fifth inning due to the run rule.
Standout playmakers for the Wolves
- Senior Madison Pickens went 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored
- At the plate, Stanton went 2-for-2 with a three-run home run, three RBIs and a run scored
- Senior Mackenzie Pickens went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run — her 10th of the season — two RBIs and three runs scored
- Senior Adriana Martinez went 2-for-2 with a double
The Wolves travel to Norcross today, Wednesday, Sept. 6, for a 5 p.m. non-conference matchup against Wesleyan, the 2022 Class 3A state champions. The game is a long held tradition for Buford and Wesleyan, which goes into play with a 10-1 record on the season.
Buford is ranked No. 5 nationally, No. 2 in the state and No. 1 in Class AAAAAAA, according to MaxPreps.
