BUFORD, Ga. — The Buford Wolves baseball erased an early deficit to defeat Mill Creek Hawks baseball 11-8 Monday at Gerald McQuaig Field in a Region 8-6A matchup.

Buford (15-2, 10-0) trailed 4-0 after the first inning. Mill Creek struck early against starter Walker Taulbee, using timely hits to build the lead.

The Wolves answered in the second inning. Buford scored three runs on a wild pitch and a two-RBI single from Ian Chafin. Chafin later scored on a groundout by Graham Young to cut the deficit.

Mill Creek regained the lead in the fourth inning, but Buford responded again. RBI singles from Ryan Johansen and Caleb Griffin highlighted a three-run inning that put the Wolves back in front.

The Hawks tied the game 8-8 in the sixth. Buford responded in the bottom half.

Payton Walker delivered the go-ahead run with a squeeze bunt. Carson Reeves followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 11-8.

Reeves closed the game on the mound. He retired all three batters he faced in the seventh to secure the win.

Reeves (4-0) earned the victory in relief. He allowed no hits or runs over 1 1/3 innings and struck out two.
