On Monday, the Buford High School riflery team competed in the first round of the GHSA state playoffs in a home match against Lafayette. Not only did Buford emerge as the winner, the team score — 1155 — set a school record.

Sophomore Olivia Nagel also had a stellar showing at the match Monday as she qualified to compete individually in the state championship set for March 15 in Waycross. Nagel’s score of 294 was two points higher than the required score of 292 to qualify for state.

Buford’s riflery team now advances to the semifinals in playoffs with an opponent and match date to be determined.
