The Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association selected the 2021 GCCA Cheerleader of the Year (5A-7A) on Saturday, Aug. 7, at Columbus State University. This year’s Cheerleader of the Year was awarded to Buford senior Whitney Lee.
Lee was selected through a rigorous selection process that began in May with coaches nominating rising seniors on their squads that met a 3.5 GPA requirement. Nominated athletes then had to submit an extensive application that detailed the athlete’s academics, community service and extracurricular activities during their high school years. The athletes also had to submit an essay. At this point, there were over 150 nominations. Mobil ödeme bozum
A group of judges then narrowed the field down to just 30 athletes. The girls selected for the top 30 had to compete Aug. 7 at Columbus State University in the performance and interview portion of the competition. The athletes’ scores from the performance and interview sections were added to the score from their applications to determine the top 16 who would make up the All-State Team.
Two athletes were selected from the All-State Team, the Cheerleader of the Year Runner Up and the Cheerleader of the Year. Lee was named the 2021 GCCA Cheerleader of the Year (5A-7A). She is the first Cheerleader of the Year award recipient to come from Buford High School.
Lee is a senior at Buford High School and is a member of the BHS Competition Cheerleading Team. She is also a member of the Stingrays Orange All-Star Cheerleading squad, which won the prestigious US All-Star Federation — Cheer and Dance’s The Cheerleading Worlds competition in their division in May 2021.
